3 Questions to Ask So You Can Find Loving Customers.
If sales is like dating — networking is like cruising. At its worst it feels predatory — at its best it’s fun and hopeful. Who doesn’t hope to meet that one person who will change their life, buy from them and open doors? You’ll need to kiss some frogs before finding your perfect pond. To minimize fatigue and frustration you’ll need to know what you are looking for and how to differentiate yourself. Let your true colors come out so the right ones will find you too.
Be very specific about who your customers are and get to know yourself. Spend time in the
places and environments you enjoy—when you do you will be more magnetic and you will attract people – your kind of people.
Before you head out to find contacts and customers on-land or on-line –set your expectations. You don’t need to connect to a zillion people, you can do very nicely connecting with a few powerful alliances so you can team up and use leverage. That means thinking about reciprocity and what you bring them?
Consider the following:
a) Where does your tribe hang out, your peeps, ideal prospects or influencers?
b) Who are your ideal customers and what kinds of things do they do and where will you find them?
c) What are they involved in or with–– what causes and interests do they have?
With some forethought you will expend less wear and tear and hone in on your customer profile so your work and life will be easier, sweeter and more productive. One last piece of advice: be patient and invest time and attention towards people who are happy. (People with an empty well can’t be generous and will drain you!) Look for people with light in their eyes and you can’t go wrong.
