Green Beauty! Mud slides, tsunamis, earthquakes, flooding, cyclones, and hurricanes… The Earth is mad and it is striking back!
What does all this doom and gloom have to do with our beauty loving selves? The answer is simple; we all need to ‘green’ our routine to help heal Mother Earth. In the article below you’ll find some easy, yet effective ways to adjust your beautifying rituals to help contribute to a healthier planet. Remember, no matter how big or small, every little bit counts.
Save Water
The average person consumes 19 gallons of water per shower and every minute the faucet
runs, two gallons of water flows down the sink . We can reduce our water usage, by simply turning off the tap when we wash our hair or brush our teeth. These actions are simple, yet an effective way to give our water reserves a much needed helping hand.
Rinse free facial wipes are a wonderful way to conserve water. Choose wipes that gently remove make up and impurities from the face and eye area. Check the label to ensure they are jam packed full of ‘good for you’ ingredients. My kit is stocked with Josie Maran Bear Naked Wipes. They are biodegradable, rinse free and feel heavenly against your skin. Like all Josie Maran products, they do not contain any nasty ingredients such as parabens, sulfates and petrochemicals.
Invest in a Good Dry Shampoo
Going a few days without washing your hair makes for sexy texture and saves water. To keep strands from looking too oily, invest in a dry shampoo. One of my absolute favorites is Klorane Oat Extract Dry Shampoo. This little gem cleans without water and in just a few quick sprays, eliminates excess sebum, dirt and dust.
Waste not, want not
How many times have you thrown away your favorite moisturizer without it being completely finished? Well, finally you can say goodbye to wastage by investing in a tube wringer. This handy tool allows you to squeeze every last drop out of your favorite tubed product. Dried up mascara? Run hot water on the outside of the tube to re-liquefy and voila, your mascara is back to life. Dropped your eye shadow and watched as it disintegrated into tiny fragments? Fear not. Gently place the fragments back into the eye shadow pan, saturate shadow with rubbing alcohol. Firmly press the eye shadow with a flat object, remove the object and allow to dry. Your eye shadow is as good as new!
Double Duty Multiples
Invest in products that can be used for a multitude of purposes. Not only will this amount to less waste for our precious environment, your bank account will start to flourish too. Let’s not kid ourselves; beauty products are expensive and all that pretty packaging spells a ton of waste! Look for tinted moisturizers that contain SPF as well as multiple sticks that work on eyes, cheeks and lips. I love NARS Multiple stick in Orgasm, this best seller is worth its weight in gold!
Ask Questions
Do your research and find out which companies are doing their fair share in helping to preserve our precious planet. Sure, a few of the big name companies are investing in so called ‘green’ companies, yet they continue to use toxic ingredients in their other brands. Use your dollars to support companies that are 100% committed to providing a truly green product that is safe for us as well as our planet.
Last but not least, buy local and support your community. Do you part and watch as our planet becomes happy and healthy once again. We owe it to ourselves and we owe it to generations to come.
